The Uintah features a heavy duty and undyed hemp basket weave canvas exterior and is lined with a very soft recycled polyester fleece. The Uintah makes use of the thickest and most raw hemp canvas we can find. This canvas is also very soft to the touch.
Story behind the name
Why doesn’t everyone do this? A few friends got together and bought an old Thiokol tracked vehicle (a snow cat) and gained access to some incredible backcountry skiing terrain in the Uintah Mountains. Our first trip was exactly what you would hope for – lots of untouched powder and steep, fresh territory. While comfortably climbing back up the mountain for another run the stereo began to crackle. Then the engine shut down. Then smoke. Then fire! Then screaming, cursing and panic as we fumbled around in our ski boots throwing snow on the fire. Luckily, we prevented our electrical fire from becoming a forest fire. Suddenly found ourselves stranded nine miles out in the backcountry…which, it seems, is why everyone doesn’t do this. Wait – wasn’t Thiokol also responsible for the Challenger space shuttle disaster!?
